California Insurance coverage Commissioner Ricardo Lara on Thursday ordered insurance coverage firms to protect residential insurance coverage protection following Gov. Gavin Newsom’s newest wildfire emergency declarations.

Lara’s order shields policyholders throughout the wildfire perimeter or in adjoining ZIP codes of the Mosquito and Fairview fires in Riverside, Placer, and El Dorado counties from insurance coverage non-renewal or cancellation for one 12 months from the date of the governor’s Sept. 8 declaration no matter whether or not they suffered a loss.

This follows moratorium orders Lara issued in mid-September.

The newest moratorium order contains 40 new ZIP codes in Riverside, Placer, and El Dorado counties, affecting over 236,000 wildfire survivors. Shoppers can go to the Division of Insurance coverage web site to see if their ZIP code is included within the moratorium.
